The Underground Performing Arts Collective Presents: A Soulful Christmas – A Groovy Musical Revue

The Underground Performing Arts Collective is excited to announce its highly anticipated holiday production, A Soulful Christmas: A Groovy Musical Revue. This vibrant celebration, inspired by the 70s Soul Train, will showcase the best of soul, R&B, gospel, and dance. Following the success of last year's A Motown Christmas, this year’s show promises to have audiences dancing in their seats to the unforgettable sounds that defined the era, running from December 5th through December 15th.

Created and written by Kendrell Bowman and Broadway’s Norfolk native Anthony Wayne, A Soulful Christmas: A Groovy Musical Revue pays tribute to the likenesses of some of the greatest musical legends, including Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Jackson 5, Teena Marie, Donny Hathaway, The Temptations, and more. This musical revue is set to infuse the holiday spirit with the soul and energy of the 1970s, making it an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.

The creative team behind this festive production brings together a wealth of talent and experience. The show is directed by Sharon Cook, with choreography by Jennifer Kelly-Cooper, musical direction by Sherrod Brown, and production design by Derrion Hawkins. Together, they have crafted a dynamic and engaging performance that aligns with UPAC's 2024-2025 season theme, “Sankofa,” which emphasizes the importance of remembering the past while moving towards the future. Cook says, “what makes this year’s holiday show so special is that audience members will be invited to join the nostalgia on stage!”
