Harbor’s Edge and The Muse Writers Center celebrate the release of a book three years in the making.
A little over three years ago, The Muse Writers Center gave a short presentation at Harbor’s Edge Retirement Community about the wonders and joys of creative writing and how it could benefit them and the members of their community. A month later ten residents attended a writing class that would soon become known as the Harbor’s Edge Memoir Writing Club.
The “writing club” continued to meet monthly (sometimes twice a month) for three years strong. After hundreds of stories shared, two well attended public readings, and a pandemic, the group decided to self-publish a book. A book that would become the beautiful collection, Memories from the Harbor’s Edge. A 100-page anthology of short memoir pieces written by members of the Harbor’s Edge Memoir Writing Group.
On December 17th, 2021, Harbor’s Edge and The Muse Writers Center celebrated the release of this long-anticipated collection with a reading at The River Tower Towne Hall. Authors read a story from their newly released book to a packed house full of family, friends, and neighbors. All the authors were introduced by Shawn Girvan, Program Director of The Muse Writers Center, who referred to his three plus year teaching assignment with the group “one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.”
